Thank you for joining us tonight for a virtual wine tasting with wines from Torbreck Vintners!
Torbreck Vintners was created with the aim of building one of the finest wine estates in the world. The vision is to pay homage to the vineyards of the Barossa Valley, home to some of the oldest vines on the planet. Torbreck, which was founded by Dave Powell in 1994, has quickly built itself up into one of the Barossa’s most prestigious wineries. It is famous for very full-bodied reds, and with several wines over the $100 a bottle threshold. Its flagship The Laird shiraz is one of Australia’s most expensive wines at $750 a bottle and about a year ago Torbreck purchased the Marananga vineyard that is the source of the grapes, renaming it The Laird vineyard.
Tonight, you will meet chief winemaker Ian Hongell. Barossa-born and bred, with a father who grows grapes, all Ian ever wanted to do was make wine. Since graduating from his winemaking degree in the 1990s, he’s built an impressive career working in wineries around the world and judging at wine shows. But he always comes home to the Barossa Valley.
Sit back and relax while Ian tells you all about the variety of wine you received for Wine for Wildlife. The video will be available for a few days, so feel free to revisit the video, too!
